Healing through the wisdom of the body/Soma

Somatic Therapy: Healing Through the Wisdom of the Body

If talk therapy hasn’t felt like enough…
If you’ve done all the “right” things but still feel stuck, anxious, or shut down…
Somatic therapy may be the missing piece.

Why Somatic Therapy?

Somatic therapy is a gentle, body-based approach that helps you reconnect with your inner sense of safety, regulation, and presence. Unlike traditional therapy that focuses mostly on thoughts and behaviors, somatic work includes your body — where many of our deepest patterns and emotional memories are held, and possibly stuck.

Trauma, chronic stress, and emotional overwhelm often leave behind more than just thoughts — they live in the body as tension, numbness, disconnection, or chronic activation. Somatic therapy supports your nervous system in unwinding those patterns in a safe, respectful, and empowering way.

Safety First: Creating a Grounded Foundation

Before we explore any deeper material, we focus on helping you feel safe, stable, and supported in your body.

In fact, that’s one of the most important parts of this work.

Trauma often shatters your sense of trust — in yourself, in others, and in the world. That’s why we go slowly and stay attuned to what your body needs. I’ll guide you to gently tune in to sensations, breath, movement, posture, and imagery — all in a way that keeps you grounded and present.

We work within what’s called your window of tolerance — the zone where your body and mind feel regulated enough to process emotions without becoming overwhelmed or shut down.

From here, we can begin to unlock patterns and create lasting shifts — not through force or re-living trauma, but through safe connection and embodied presence.

What Is the “Felt Sense”?

A key part of somatic therapy is working with your felt sense — the inner body awareness that gives you subtle (but powerful) information about your emotions, needs, and boundaries.

For example, recalling a moment of awe or calm might bring a warmth in your chest, a softening in your belly, or a tingle down your arms. These sensations are your body’s language. Learning to recognize and trust them is part of building deeper self-connection and nervous system resilience.
