Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic Medicine is a distinctively natural approach to health and healing that recognizes the integrity of the whole person.

Methods of treatments are chosen to work with the patient’s vital force, respecting the intelligence of the natural healing process.

The practice of Naturopathic Medicine emerges from six underlying principles of healing. These principles are based on the objective observation of the nature of health and disease, and are continually reexamined in light of scientific analysis. The following tenants, reaching far back to the time of Hippocrates, distinguish the profession from other medical approaches.

The goal of Naturopathic Medicine is to develop optimal wellness for each patient, and to teach the principles of ideal health.  Although Naturopathic doctors are educated and trained to treat acute and chronic disease, prevention is the ultimate goal.  This is based on the Naturopathic philosophy of wellness enhancement not disease management.

These conditions, symptoms, or “dis-eases” have been and can be treated successfully with Naturopathic Medicine with or without prescription medications.

Naturopathic Medicine is unique in that EVERY INDIVIDUAL can improve their health and wellbeing no matter where they are in the health/dis-ease continuum.

Naturopathic physicians are family practice physicians and have a responsibility to the patient to provide the best health care available.

A few of these conditions may require additional lab testing that may or may not be covered by your health insurance plan. Dr. Celeste can order a few select labs found on http://www.wr.mymedlab.com.  In the state of RI, Naturopaths cannot officially diagnose disease or prescribe pharmaceuticals, so it is recommended to continue working with your Primary Care Physician.  Communication avenues should always be kept open to treat you and your concerns optimally.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
* Initially, when you arrive for your initial consult, please set aside 90 minutes for completion of intake questionnaire (if you do not do so beforehand), and a thorough conversational intake with potential relevant physical exam and lab work review.
* Follow up visits can range from 20 minutes to 60 minutes, depending on what you need that day – shorter visits are during our monthly check-ins to make sure you are understanding the treatment plan and following the diet and exercise plan correctly, as well as time to provide alternative treatments to best allow this new lifestyle to work for you.
* I do not diagnose nor do I “treat” specific conditions, rather I approach your concerns with a true holistic standpoint and philosophy.  I essentially am a detective and facilitator.  I find where there is an imbalance (whether it be in your endocrine, cardiovascular, immune systems, etc), and facilitate natural holistic treatments to help find your optimal wellness, addressing the cause rather than individual symptoms.
* You will leave with information and tools to live a healthier life, for yourself and your family!  I am a coach, a doctor, a detective, here to help you prevent chronic disease and treat current imbalances.
