Spot-reduction fat loss?!

Is there such a thing?

As a personal trainer for over a decade, I have told thousands of clients that there is NO SUCH THING as “spot reduction” other than surgery…until now.  I can’t believe I am now marketing actual spot reduction WITHOUT SURGERY.  I did not like my minor surgery clinic rotations, so you won’t see me performing even minor surgery.  This is different, is real, works, and is effective upon specific parameters.

Ultrasound-Radiofrequency Fat Cavitation (Lipolysis), also called Lipocavitation, or Non-invasive ultrasonic fat removal – NUFR

Ultrasonic cavitation is NOT a method to lose weight but rather to shape the body. The treatment is used to reduce stubborn fatty pockets that just won’t go away with diet and exercise.

This scientifically developed medical Ultrasonic RF technology is based on a medical breakthrough that uses biocavitational ultrasound waves and radio frequency energy, to selectively break down fat cells and cellulite without affecting neighboring organs and cells. Immediately after treatment, your body clear away the disrupted fat cells, mainly through the liver.  The procedure is comfortable and painless, has no side effects, and requires no anaesthesia or sedation.

This is targeted body contouring. We all know the difficulty of losing fat in stubborn areas such as ‘love handles’, lower abdomen or outer thighs. Ultrasonic is ideal for these targeted areas, helping to smooth contours and reshape your figure. In 30 minute treatment sessions!

You can lose inches on your lunch break!

Results are typically seen immediately but continue over the next 1-2 weeks (which is the time needed for the body to naturally process the treated fat).

How does Ultrasonic Cavitation remove fat?

The vibration of sound waves produced by the specific Ultrasound frequency essentially causes fat cells to explode without damaging neighboring tissue.

After disruption of adipose cells (fat cells), the broken fat in the form of triglycerides is released into the interstitial fluid between the cells, where they are enzymatically metabolized to glycerol and free fatty acids  and then excreted by the body’s detoxification organs.

You may have heard (correctly) that you can only gain fat cells, you can’t lose fat cells.  Diet and exercise only rids the fat from the cells causing them to shrink in size, but there is always a possibility they will be filled again with fat.  With NUFR, fat cells DIE!!!

There are a few rules; however, to optimize results:

Before & Aftercare Advice

Drink at least 2 liters of water before your treatment and another 2 liters in the day after your treatment (soft drink, soda, juice or tea is not water).

You should not eat 2 hours before and 1 hour after treatment.

Do not drink ANY alcohol or caffeine in the day of treatment of 48hrs after. (1 day before, 3 days following)

Use dry skin brushing daily to stimulate lymph movement (your therapist will show you how to do this). Dr. Celeste will have handouts and soon will be carrying natural dry skin brushes in office for sale.

Do not shower in hot water (warm is alright) or steam/sauna straight after treatment.

Diet: Follow a fat free, low starch, low sugar diet for best results throughout the treatments (whether it be 1 week or 6 months)

Exercise (light to moderate cardio) for at least 20 minutes after your treatment to stimulate lymph movement.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

Is Ultrasonic Fat Cavitation a safe procedure?

Yes, it is a safe, comfortable, and non-invasive procedure with virtually no side effects. It does not require anesthesia, leaves no scars and does not require any post treatment. The ultrasound energy is designed to target fatty tissues beneath the skin only, and does not affect the blood vessels, nerves and connective tissues.

How many visits will I need?

Depends on the amount of fat to be cavitated; however, it will only spot reduce.

The fat cell shrinks allowing the fat to move out slowly over time. Fat cell typically remain active for 48 hours following laser shaping sessions necessitating treatment every 48 to 72 hours for a minimum of 2 weeks or 6 session. If a single session is missed the patient will see little to no results. Often 12 sessions are needed to see any change in circumference or loss. Desired results can take up to 4-6 weeks before changes are seen. Results can be temporary as fat cells remain intact and can simply refill.. Many clients show noticeable results only 50% of the time. In many cases, fat simply moves back into the cell.

Is the procedure painful?

No, the treatment is painless. A slight tingling sensation or buzzing in the ear may sometimes be felt during the treatment. Some heat sensation may also be felt during treatment but no pain. Any slight reddening of the skin which may sometimes develop during or soon after treatment quickly disappears.

On which parts of the body is the treatment most beneficial?

Thighs (saddle bags), Abdomen (love handles), Hips (flanks), Buttock, Upper arm i.e. the areas of localized fat. However it cannot be applied to the head, neck, chest, back and over bony areas.

How long is a treatment session?

Treatment times may vary depending on the area being treated but a typical session will last between 40 minutes to an hour. This includes the preparation, treatment and post treatment procedures.

Does it work on Cellulite?

Yes, low frequency ultrasound (40kHz) generally works well on cellulite by focusing the ‘cavitation effect’ on the superficial fat tissue. Best results are obtained when the ultrasound is applied in conjunction with the radio frequency’ (RF) treatment which helps to tighten and tone the skin. Cellulite is the appearance of dimpled skin.

Where are fat cells stored?

Fat is stored primarily as triglycerides inside adipocytes cells located between the muscles and skin. The numbers of fat cells are the same regardless of a person’s weight but the size of the cells can vary greatly.

What instant result can I expect?

The ultrasonic cavitation treatment will often yield immediate results which you can feel, touch and see and it can be long lasting. Some clients can experience between 1 to 5 cm. of circumference reduction after a single session with increasing results after subsequent visits. However, more significant results will be noticed after the second and third treatment.

Noticeable results in problem areas can be seen after the first session and desired results typically after 3-6 sessions. In between sessions you should follow a low-carb diet, drink plenty of mineral or spring water, avoid alcohol for 3 days after treatment and get plenty of exercise to encourage lymph flow, which supports the removal of fat cells from the body.

Everyone is different but on average, one procedure can remove up to a pound of fat or 1.5 inches of the area being treated. Typically we see 1/2-3 inches depending on the individual and combination use of Ultrasonic treatment with Radiofrequency.

The number of sessions all depends on how many inches you want to loose. A course is usually between minimum 3 to maximum 20 sessions in any one area.

What long term results can I expect with ultrasonic cavitation?

The results are gradual over a number of weeks as your body clears the broken down fatty tissues. It is not uncommon to achieve up to 10 cm reduction by the end of the course of treatments. The results can be long lasting provided you follow a healthy diet and exercise program. However it is very easy to deposit fat again into the tissues if one over-eats, consumes too much alcohol or doesn’t exercise. Ultimately the result may vary depending on the individual’s different tissue structure, treatment area, age, metabolism, medication, and changes in hormones.

Can I lose weight with Ultrasonic Cavitation?

Fat Cavitation is not a treatment for obesity nor is it a weight loss procedure. Rather is a method for ‘reshaping’ and ‘toning’ the body. It is particularly intended to reduce localised fat tissues which are resistant to exercise around the abdomen (love handles), buttocks, and thighs (saddle bags), that won’t easily go away by simple dieting and exercise.

Are there any side effects with this treatment?

There are virtually no side effects. However on rare occasions there may be a slight possibility of mild side effects such as transient redness, excessive thirst, or nausea immediately after the treatment which is invariably resolved by drinking water. These are all short-term effects that disappear in a few hours.

What Guidelines should I follow pre-treatment and, post treatment?

Drink plenty of water. Drinking water is a necessary part of the treatment to facilitate the elimination of the broken down fat. Maintain a low calorie diet for a few days after the treatment to ensure that the energy released by the treatment is metabolized by the body. After the treatment patients are able to return to their daily activities as usual.

What are the ‘contraindications’ with Ultrasonic Cavitation?

Ultrasonic cavitation treatment is not for everybody. Even though it is a safe and painless procedure, nevertheless there are contraindications for using cavitation devices for treatment of localized fat. Such contraindications will depend on the individual’s medical history. Thus people with kidney failure, liver failure, heart disease, carrying a pacemaker, pregnancy, lactation, etc. are not suitable candidates for the cavitation treatment.

Are the results of ultrasonic cavitation similar to liposuction?

The ultrasonic cavitation can be considered as a treatment alternative to surgical liposuction. Both treatments are designed to reduce fatty tissues. However, Liposuction is invasive while Ultrasonic Cavitation is non-invasive.
